The advantages of investing in Tunisia
Investing in Tunisia means benefiting from:
- The geographical proximity to EU member countries.
- Simplified establishment procedures, particularly following the enactment of the new Investment Law No. 71-2016 of 30/09/2016.
- The complete dismantling of customs duties with the EU and the Maghreb.
- Easy access to the Libyan and Algerian markets.
- 10 operational competitiveness clusters or technology parks, two operational economic activity parks providing high-quality services, a park dedicated to the aeronautics industry and around one hundred industrial zones distributed throughout the country.
- A tax system with a standard corporate income tax (CIT) rate of 20%, plus a social solidarity contribution (CSS) of 3% of taxable profits for the companies concerned, subject to applicable tax regulations. Specific tax rates and incentives may apply depending on the sector and investment regime.
- Competitive production factors for investing in Tunisia.
- Significant renewable energy potential, particularly solar energy. By 2030, 30% (equivalent to 3,700 MW) of the country’s electricity requirements are expected to be generated from renewable energy sources.
- The signing in 1995 of the Association and Free Trade Agreement with the European Union. In November 2012, Tunisia obtained advanced partner status, giving it access to trade advantages and thereby providing its exports with priority access to European markets.
- The signing of 52 double taxation treaties and 54 bilateral agreements for the promotion and protection of investments, notably with France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, the United States, Finland, Sweden, South Korea and Indonesia.
- Tunisia is a member of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes and, in May 2012, adhered to the OECD Declaration on International Investment and Multinational Enterprises, aimed at promoting responsible conduct by governments and businesses.
- Tunisia has been an original member of the World Trade Organization since 1995.
- In May 2015, Tunisia was designated a Major Non-NATO Ally. Tunisia thus became the 16th country to benefit from this status, alongside Egypt, Japan, Morocco and Bahrain. This provides it with defence and military assistance from NATO.
